Yarn Barf

I don't know what has come over me, I just felt this overwhelming urge to post on this blog that has been neglected for so long. Here is the beauty of me: I am always changing my mind. I started this blog, half-heartedly posted to it for a minute, and then flitted off to Ravelry, which is a fantastic resource and social network. But here is the thing: I am a non-conformist. Therefore, I don't feel compelled to put every project I knit on Ravelry, frankly I think it's a pain in the ass. Even though really it's not, it's fairly easy, I just find the whole process overwhelming. What size needles did I use, I don't freakin' know! BUT, I still feel like throwing up a pic or two of my knitting, and also tell the story of what went into it, like a lot of whining, or bragging or whatever. And I also want to say that everyone besides me should keep putting their stuff up on Ravelry because I steal your ideas regularly.

So... I have been knitting almost daily for almost 4 years. This has resulted in a bit of stuff. I will start with the stuff I took pictures of when I finished it, and I have on my hard drive, that way I don't have to get up off my ass and actually photograph something. Let's see...



This is one of a pair of socks I did last year I think. I got the ruffle pattern out of a book called 101 Designer One Skein Wonders, the yarn is Socks That Rock in the colorway called Peek a Boo Peony. I happen to think these are the cutest socks ever. The ruffle looks super cute peeking out of the leg of my jeans. End of story.



Oh, I made this shawl last year too. It is my first shawl, my first project in which I tackled the dreaded yarn over. Now, yarn overs are easy but when you drop a stitch and there is a yarn over involved it results in swearing and having to unknit for a week trying to get back to where you screwed it up. Because it has to be perfect because it has been entered into the fair. Which it won a blue ribbon at. If there had been a blue ribbon for swearing I would have won that too.



These are 2 different socks. The one on the right is in Mountain Colors I think the colorway is Portland something. The one on the left still needs its mate to be knit. I knit it as a test to see if I could do a more complicated pattern because I had signed up for Sock Wars and needed to know how to knit something more that stockinette. One of these days I will make the other one. I fact, now that I think about it, I may whip up the other one and enter them into the fair!


These are just plain socks but the yarn has a story behind it. Last spring over at Gonzaga there was a weaving thing going on. There was a small marketplace there and I fell in love with this yarn from Newton's Yarn Country. It was a big skein, I made socks and the shawl above from it. It was $52.00! So I was hugging the yarn and telling it that I was sorry but I could not take it home with me because it cost too much. Then one of my friends pointed out a sign that said 50% off. Sold! We all called it the baby yarn because I was hugging it like it was a baby. The label said it was superwash but the socks still got really pill-y and I think there is a hole in the toe, so they have been well worn and well loved.



Oh and then I made these mittens out of Plymouth Encore I think. Here is where I learned how to do a Make 1 increase. It wasn't very hard but that didn't stop me from whining about it.

So there you go. I posted. Hopefully it won't be another year before I post again. As soon as I take some more pictures we can talk about the baby knitting I have been doing, and also the great fingerless glove debacle. See ya.

An Update 10 Months In The Making

Imagine, putting pictures of knitting on my knitting blog, who would have thought. I think I am getting a little bit over Facebook and also I have been reading a lot of knitting blogs lately and I feel inspired a little bit, also I have this 3 day weekend which gives me the feeling of having some time and even though I have a lot to do today I'm doing this first. So here are pictures of stuff that I made since last summer.



A sock. Actually two of them, made with Socks That Rock mediumweight, color is Fairgrounds or maybe Farmhouse, I get those 2 mixed up. I still need to kitchener the toe of the 2nd one, it takes like 15 minutes so I put it off for 2 months.



Thorpe. Made with a chunky tweed yarn by Plymouth in brown and trimmed with Lion Suede. My first top-down hat, ended up a little short but the earflaps make up for it. This one was my snow shoveling hat.



My second Fake Isle hat, Black is Brown Sheep wool and color is Noro Kureyon. Kind of tight and goofy looking on my head but I like the colors and pattern so I will keep practicing till I make one that comes out better.



Dobby hat by Left in Stitches. I whipped this one up out of some acrylic to wear in the St. Patrick's Day parade. Good thing, it was really cold and wet that day, I was happy to have it. Around this time I also made a hat for Max that was just like the one Randy wore in "A Christmas Story", really long and cool.



A cowl. Can't remember the pattern, but the yarn was Cascade 220. I made this because I was having technical difficulties while snow shoveling, it seems my scarf would push my hat off my head because it was too bulky around my neck. So I devised the Cowl/Calorimetry combo which worked much better. If I knew where my calorimetry was I would have taken a picture of it.



Another Noro Kureyon hat. I love that yarn and I buy what I like one skein at a time. At the beginning of winter I make a Noro hat and that is my wear to work and keep in the car hat. Not looking forward to making another one because that will mean that Summer is over.



This sock I made with yarn I was given by one of my knitting group girls. I don't like the colorway for myself but when my sister was up here a while back she really liked it so I am giving it to her for her birthday in July and then I will try to knit the other one by Christmas and give it to her then.

The Knitmare Continues

I felt like I needed to blog but I have nothing really to say on my regular one so I will babble on about my knitting here for a few minutes.

I have been on a tear with the Ballband Warshcloths. I have made five of them recently, took pictures of none of them, but suffice to say that the four I kept make great shower washcloths.

Also I started a crochet throw. It started out as the Rainbow Waves Afghan but the waves looked funny so now the waves are all in a straight line. Which I like better and looks just fine. I am using Vanna's Choice yarn. At first all the colors in that line were dull and boring to me, but then they expanded to a brighter baby line, which is great.

So that's really all that I have been doing, yarn-wise. Not much to get excited about. When I first started knitting I was so enthusiastic about it, but not so much anymore. Still like it, just not eating sleeping and breathing it anymore.

A New Post!

I was thinking about this blog and how I totally neglect it when I shouldn't, if for no other reason than it is called Knitmare On Elm Street which I think is the best blog name ever, knitting or otherwise.

Part of the reason I don't post here is that I got into Ravelry and so that became where all the knitting stuff went.

Another reason is that I haven't been knitting too much lately. I am currently working on another Brooklyn Tweed Noro Scarf which is turning out great and my plan is to enter it in the fair and win a ribbon. Which isn't hard since they seem to give everyone a ribbon. But I plan on my ribbon to be blue. HA! I need to get one more skein of Noro Kureyon to continue with the scarf, and my favorite LYS just closed forever and now I am forced to go elsewhere and their hours aren't as good so I am not getting there. Maybe this weekend.

I am reorganizing my office and I just put away all my yarn, the dishcloth cotton outnumbers the yarn 2 to 1. I really should get cracking on some dishcloths! Like about 100.

I also have been sporadically working on my Babette Blanket, which is crochet. But my heart is not in it for long periods of crocheting.
